What is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy was developed over 75 years ago and today is one of the most common treatments for spider and varicose veins. During the treatment, a sclerosing agent is injected into the vein through a tiny needle. The solution, once injected into the vein, replaces the blood in the vein and causes irritation and corrosion to the walls of the vessels. The body then begins the natural healing process and the vein begins to decompose, shrink and eventually disappear.
How many treatments will it take?
Several treatments may be required to achieve the optimum result. In most cases, three treatments will achieve the desired outcome.
What results will I see?
Most patients realize dramatic improvement in their leg vein condition. The veins gradually disappear over the course of treatment. The optimal result is typically observed between one and four months after the final treatment.
At DermaCare we us Asclera brand as our sclerosing agent.
Asclera® (polidocanol) Injection is a prescription medicine and is administered by a healthcare provider to treat two types of veins:
- Uncomplicated spider veins (very small varicose veins ≤ 1 mm in diameter)
- Uncomplicated small varicose veins (1 to 3 mm in diameter) known as reticular veins
How Does Asclera® Work?Asclera® is a sclerosing agent that is injected into the vein. It works by damaging the endothelium, the cells lining the inside of blood vessels. This causes blood platelets to attach to the lining of the vessels; eventually, cellular debris and platelets cause the blood vessel to clot. Over time, the clotted vein will be replaced with tissue.
